Wisconsin River Canoe Trail

Flowing South from the Castle Rock Dam, The Wisconsin River forms the border between Juneau and Adams County. It is easily accessible for canoes or powerboats. Many islands and sandbars are found in this portion, making it easy to see why the Wisconsin was once called "the river of a thousand isles." Majestic Castle Rock rises on the west bank of the river. It is a remnant "Sea Stack" of ancient Glacial Lake Wisconsin which once covered this entire area. The Hwy 82 bridge spans the river at about the halfway point on this trip. Before the bridge was built in the early 1950's, a ferry crossed the river at this point.

Another 2 miles downstream, the Lemonweir River flows into the Wisconsin along the west bank.

The last take-out before the Wisconsin Dells dam is just beyond Louie Bluff approximately 3 1/2 miles from Clark Island. This is at River Bay Marina.

Any plans for an extended trip will take you into Wisconsin Dells flowage and waters used by Wisconsin Dells sightseeing boats. Be sure to exercise caution in these waters. Canoe rentals & shuttles are available from our advertisers.
